AFP-SD Hosts Dozens of State Lawmakers at Dinner Focused on REINS Act
Pierre, SD — Americans for Prosperity–South Dakota (AFP–SD) hosted more than two dozen South Dakota lawmakers for a dinner Tuesday evening that focused on the need to swiftly pass the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act. The REINS Act would establish a new legislative approval process for any proposed regulation with serious economic or social implications. In other words, the REINS Act puts regulatory power back into the hands of South Dakota’s representatives instead of unelected bureaucrats.
“We have a pretty good rules process right now, and we want to keep it that way by shedding some light on those rules before they become laws that end up costing South Dakotans,” said AFP-SD State Director Jennifer Beving. “This bill requires a cost benefit analysis that all legislators and people affected by the rule will have time to weigh in on, and if it’s too expensive to analyze a particular rule, frankly that rule deserves to be scrutinized.”
