AFP-SD Issues Fresh Call for Tax Transparency Legislation on Filing Day
Pierre, SD – Americans for Prosperity-South Dakota (AFP-SD) marked Tax Day by issuing a fresh call for the Legislature to pass a tax transparency bill and increase accountability in the Mount Rushmore state.
Truth in taxation – part of the Rushmore Roadmap agenda – is AFP-SD’s belief that property owners and taxpayers should be given detailed information by tax authorities outlining the impact of any proposed increases. This legislative initiative also stipulates that at least one public hearing must be held for the public to discuss a proposed tax hike.
AFP-SD State Director Jennifer Beving released the following statement:
“Tax Day is here, and it’s a good time to remember that South Dakotans deserve representatives who are honest about how tax revenue is used. The state doesn’t just spend money; it’s spending our hard-earned income. South Dakota lawmakers owe it to taxpayers to be fully honest whenever there’s a tax increase, and if they aren’t willing to do that, then they should be held accountable.”
